I am an early riser, almost ridiculously so, as it is not rare to find me fixing a pot of coffee at 5:30 in the morning. And what’s even more silly about that fact is I hardly have shit to do, requiring me up at such an ungodly hour. It probably comes from being a contractor a few years back, and a religious Howard Stern listener when the show goes live at 6am. The early summer light affects me as well; I’m very photosensitive.
Anyway, one of my morning rituals when I wake at the break of day is to put on said pot and Way Too Early with Willie Geist, on MSNBC. Willie is great: his irreverent sense of humor and excellent taste in hip-hop is right up in the wheelhouse for 30-somethings like me. I wish we were BFFs. Way Too Early is Willie’s own little 30-minute primer for the days news and pop culture curiosities, before he moves across the studio for his supporting role at the table with Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Mike Barnicle on Morning Joe. (Willie is the funny one, if you couldn’t tell with that table full of mirth-makers; OK, Barnicle is a little funny.) One feature of Way Too Early is the reading of tweets and/or emails from viewers, answering the question, “Why are you up way too early?”
So even though I felt I sent Willie a good response, you can imagine my surprise and delight to see my tweet read live on national television by the man himself this morning – no one must watch this fucking show – and getting laughs! (Willie gets some laughs in as well with a great line regarding fashion, right before my tweet.)
And for your information, that was a purely fictitious joke, as I am all the erotica my wife can handle. Oh, and speaking of Fifty Shades of Grey, the phenomenon has proven the difference between female and male porn: three novels…and three minutes, respectively.
